Keimushan History
Date Event
Prehistory The mokuzai and jorogumo first arrive on Kes from the depths of the Spirit World.
Prehistory The Great Spirit War is started by the Celestial Emperor (known only as The Great Enemy to later generations), the representative of the gods in the Spirit World. The War shakes the foundations of the Celestial and Oni Courts.
Prehistory During the war, almost all of the dark fae races are exterminated in a series of genocidal attrocities unseen on Kes. During the genocide, the seishin light fae and sukoshi dark fae flee the Spirit World and journey to Kes.
Prehistory Aware that the gods are about to depose him, The Great Enemy frees the Seven Storms, a group of powerful beasts from “before the world” who wreak havoc across the Spirit World. The Seven Storms eventually tear their way through to the material world. Soon after, the gods throw down The Great Enemy and replace him with the Celestial Emperor, Tianti Duren . The new Celestial Emperor immediately calls an end to the war and sues for peace with the Oni Court of Sin. The Oni Court, to the surprise of many, agree to the peace. In other versions of the story, the new Celestial Emperor, filled with the righteous might of the gods, forces the Oni Court of Sin to accept peace lest he destroy them.
circa 10000 BE After The Great Enemy is imprisoned (or destroyed, depending on the version of the tale), Celestial Emperor Tianti Duren orders The Great Enemy’s name and the memory of his deeds stricken from the Akashic Record. Celestial Emperor Tianti Duren summons the Celestial Court’s 54 greatest immortal heroes to hunt down the Seven Storms. As a gesture of good faith for the new “peace” between the Celestial Court and the Oni Court of Sin, the Oni Lords send 54 of their greatest immortal heroes as well. The joined band of heroes become known as the 108 Immortal Heroes of Sea and Sky. In other variations of the tale, Celestial Emperor Tianti Duren forces the Oni Court of Sin to send oni heroes.
circa 9000 BE After being hunted for 1000 years by the 108 Immortal Heroes of Sea and Sky across Kes, six of the Seven Storms are finally caught and bound in magical chains created by the Totoru . The last Storm, said to be the greatest and most hideous of the Storms, vanishes before it can be found by the 108 Heroes.
2000 BE The xinshu underwater nation of Senlin is attacked by previously unknown otherworldly creatures. The xinshu name them the Black Hunger , after their oily black hides and ravenous hunger. Within a decade, most of Senlin is destroyed or taken over by the Black Hunger before they suddenly cease their spread.
1800 BE Having plundered secrets from an ancient, fallen empire, the Nidoru Twins quickly form the Hikari Empire which rises to dominate much of Kakushi-do. Rune-Binding becomes common place and, within a generation, the twins have tens of thousands of soulbound slaves.
1500 BE After several hundred tense years where the xinshu work tirelessly to determine a way to destroy or banish the Black Hunger, the merciless black invaders again begin their expansion and the xinshu are reduced from a population of over ten million down to under two hundred thousand. The survivors retreat to the hidden city of Shui xia Chengshi .
circa 1010 BE The Dragon Queen is killed by oni. Soon after, the dragons go mad and wreak devastation across the world, including the destruction of Sutarai, the capital of the Hikari Empire. Just as suddenly, the dragons abruptly vanish to places unknown. With the death of the Nidoru Twins, the Hikari Empire begins to break apart into separate, warring states.
circa 1000 BE Li Kong Zhuan, The Blood Tyrant, rises to power in Yemu Jianglin. Within 10 years, The Blood Tyrant conquers the crumbling Hikari Empire before pushing on to conquer the continents of Kakushi-do and Haruka-do, stretching from The Thyrdulf Sea in the north of Kakushi-do to the jungles of Haruka-do in the south. Li Kong Zhuan uses one of the ancient Totoru flying cities as his base of operations and controls the two continents with an iron fist.
circa 900 BE The Blood Tyrant targets the theren and very nearly drives them to extinction. The theren’s moon goddess, Suki-o-Chi the goddess of wisdom, sacrifices herself by falling to the world and “saving them”.
circa 150 BE The Blood Tyrant attacks the sukoshi and seishin dark fae. Both races fight back and support an ongoing, underground rebellion, all the while looking for heroes to throw down The Blood Tyrant.
circa 10 BE Athoc Akimoto and his cousin, Shinjo Tomori , raise a rebellion against Li Kong Zhuan and fight back the hordes of the undead. The theren train Athoc Akimoto in the martial arts. A theren mystic foretells that Shinjo Tomori will defeat The Blood Tyrant.
circa 1 BE Athoc Akimoto and Shinjo Tomori finally fight Li Kong Zhuan in his flying Palace of One Thousand Screams . The cousins defeat The Blood Tyrant and the Eternal Empire comes to an end, though only Athoc Akimoto returns from the fierce battle, his cousin Shinjo Tomori having sacrificed himself to end The Blood Tyrant’s reign.
0 AE Athoc Akimoto draws thirteen keimushan city states into an alliance and is named Emperor Athoc Akimoto, First Emperor of the new empire of Keimusho.
1 AE The Shudan are formalised as the official group of deities within Keimusho.
16 AE Sixteen years after the formation of the Empire of Keimusho, Emperor Athoc Akimoto dies of old age and is succeeded by his son, Tomi Akimoto. As the saying goes “The autumn wind blows the blossom far from the tree” – this proves to be the case with Tomi Akimoto who soon comes to be known as Tyrant Emperor Tomi. It is whispered that Emperor Tomi may have poisoned his father, the great Athoc Akimoto.
17 AE Tyrant Emperor Tomi orders his armies to invade the “heathen” lands of Tuunguzh. The Konu immediately retaliate and decimate the invading Keimushan army.
21 AE After a 3 year war that continues to drain the resources of the newly formed Empire, Tyrant Emperor Tomi is overthrown by his younger brother, Lord Gonkuro Akimoto. The Empire reels under the shock change in rulership, though the dark oppression of the populous comes to an end and the Lord is named Emperor Gonkuro Akimoto The 1st. The young teen Emperor Gonkuro Akimoto is seen as the “spiritual” successor to Athoc Akimoto, the great founder of the Keimushan empire.
22 AE Emperor Gonkuro Akimoto sends envoys to Tuunguzh to sue for peace as best they can without losing honour. Border skirmishes continue in the air of distrust. The young emperor spends the next several years suring up stability across the empire.
24 AE The city of Kohaishita, halfway between Shunsen-to and Willowford along the coast of the Sunspire Sea, mysteriously and catastrophically erupts in fire. No one survives. The ruins of Kohaishita remain untouched as ships that pass by at night tell tales of hearing blood-curdling screams as if thousands of people were burning alive. Many believe that the city is cursed. To the current day, a pall of greasy black smoke hangs thick in the air over the ruins of Kohaishita.
25 AE Peace is finally made between the Empire of Keimusho and The Circle, the tribal rulers of Tuunguzh. The Empire of Keimusho gifts the chieftains of The Circle with weapons of finest quality. The Chieftains, in turn, gift the envoys from the Empire of Keimusho with peace bundles (sacred blankets wrapped around items of peace and harmony with the land).
26 AE The Golden Wheel, a council of various Keimushan guilds, is formally created and organised to protect the interests, quality of goods and service amongst crafters and service providers of all kinds.
28 AE A great plague sweeps over Keimusho and across Kes. Hundreds of thousands die. The plague is reputedly spread by rats and, it is rumoured, by rats that walk as men. Empress Yori Akimoto dies as a result of the plague.
29 AE Emperor Gonkuro Akimoto orders a huge public works program to improve and rebuild the sewer, waste and water systems throughout the cities of Keimusho to help combat the plague. At the same time, tens of thousands of rats are put to the torch and a permanent bounty on rats is posted throughout the Empire. Many kyodai-chi travel throughout the Empire to aid in the new design and construction of the Empire’s aqueducts.
46 AE Current day.
